Written and photographed by our dear friend, Paola Gianturco and her really smart, astute granddaughter, Alex Sangster, Wonder Girls: Changing Our World is the first photographic book to document groups of activist girls (age 10 to 18) globally. It’s award-winning and inspiring!
Together, Paola and then eleven-year-old Alex documented the work of fifteen girl-led nonprofit groups in thirteen countries in Asia and Central Asia, North and Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania. They interviewed and photographed 102 girls. These girl-led groups are changing our world poco-a-poco. One of the organizations profiled is actually based here in Santa Fe, then called “Creativity for Peace”, now known as “Tomorrow’s Women”.
Around the world, groups of activist girls are transforming our world: improving education, health, equality and the environment; stopping child marriage, domestic violence, trafficking, and war. Their imagination and courage radiate through their stories, all told in their own words.
Leave it to women–they are natural leaders. Great photobook and essays for grandmothers to give to granddaughters, for sisters to give to each other, and on and on.
