Klasica is the creative home of designer Kohei Kawamura, based in Shimokitazawa,Tokyo. Kawamura-san grew up by the sea in the town of Hokkaido and spent his time fabricating tiny clothes for his GI Joe. This resulted in his fascination with uniforms and tailoring. Since then, he has delved into vintage wear from around the world, prefers a relaxed fit in his clothing and unisex minimalism. In addition to working with woven linen, he employs cotton-hemp blends of fabric, cotton-linen, ramie, wool and hemp. In addition natural fibers, Klasica is famous for their application of bengara (mud-dye) which is iron oxide from soil, which is used as a natural, ancient pigment for coloring, dyeing, and protection, and is environmentally safe. Together with bengara, Klasica uses sumi ink coating on a selection of their garments.
