Melanie A. Yazzie (Navajo-Diné) is a highly regarded multimedia artist known for her printmaking, paintings, sculpture and jewelry designs. Glenn Green Galleries, her international representatives and TOKo Santa Fe’s connection to Melanie, collaborate in applying Melanie’s designs to various materials. In this case, they have created a pillow design for outdoor use–prints on cloth, that are then water-proofed.
This pillow has Melanie’s artwork, “Crossing Over”, printed in teal, front and back.

Figures of animals, insects and other beings are meant to protect and give strength to the wearer. They serve as symbols of empowerment and the possibility of creating good things. Yazzie sees these as her protectors. In her artwork she follows the Navajo philosophy of seeking beauty, balance and harmony.
