Designer/potter Michel Pastore embarked on a creative journey on the banks of the Nile. He met weavers in Naqada, Upper Egypt, and sought to revive their dwindling craft. He designed motifs to be produced, adapting aesthetics from the region’s traditions. In 1993, fashion designer Sylva Nasrallah joined Michel and together, they have sought to “stay at the periphery of fashion to enjoy the freedom to design without constraint, and to create a timeless style, rooted in tradition, but not limited to Egypt only.”
Most of their designs draw upon the ikat motif, and use Egyptian cotton, though they also use Uzbek ikats and Southwestern Chinese vintage fabrics in their work intermittently.
