TOKo Santa Fe Presents Melissa Leventon, Author/Curator, “Fit for a Queen” Zoom, March 2, 4pm MT

Event Description: Queen Sirikit, Queen Mother of Thailand, is considered to be one of the most beautiful, stylish and best-dressed women in the world.  In 1960, Queen Sirikit and her husband, King Bhumibol Adulyadej made a round-the-world, 6-month trip, introducing the world to Siam/Thailand. Queen Sirikit knew that the world’s eyes would be on her and WHAT SHE WORE.  Our friend and internationally-recognized fashion historian and curator, Melissa Leventon, author of Fit for a Queen, will discuss her 2016 book which paid tribute to the wardrobe created by French designer, Pierre Balmain for the Queen’s travels. She will discuss the collection, now housed at the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles in Bangkok, the design process, the revitalization of Thai regional textile traditions, details about each ensemble, and Islamic references that were merged into a modern adaptation of Thai dress.
